Stay Competitive

Bellevue School District Woodridge Elementary

Mercer Island has been a clear leader in education in the Puget Sound Region, but we are falling behind other districts in rebuilding schools.   Our facilities have gone from being roughly equal, to being visibly behind those of surrounding communities that offer  modern new facilities geared towards 21st Century learning.  The facilities gap with surrounding schools is significant enough that it has potential to damage the quality and reputation of our award-winning school system.

Other School Districts Are Rebuilding Schools At a Blistering Pace

Bellevue, Issaquah, Renton and Lake Washington School Districts are rebuilding schools to expand capacity. They have chosen to rebuild rather than remodel. Why? It is by far more economical to rebuild, considered over the long term. For us, the choice is even more clear: our 55 year old schools have already been remodeled once. The core building will eventually have to be replaced and it is more cost-effective to do so now.
