Solve the Capacity Crisis

Mercer Island schools are bursting at the seams. We urgently need more space. We are 34% over capacity today, and will be 41% over capacity in our K-8 schools by 2015…

Elementary schools and IMS beyond capacity

Stay Competitive

Mercer Island is falling behind all other area communities in rebuilding schools, which ultimately damages the quality and reputation of our award-winning school system.

Right Solution, Right Time

Necessary, responsible and cost effective… Three “right-sized” elementary schools and a new middle school will facilitate educational excellence at a fiscally responsible cost.

Mercer Island School District will place a bond measure on the April 17, 2012 ballot requesting authority to finance rebuilding and modernizing school facilities over a five to eight-year period.

The recently completed 21st Century Facilities Master Plan forms the guiding vision for those improvements, a plan created in 2011 with extensive community involvement and is a component of a 4 year research and planning effort orchestrated by the School Board and MISD Administration.

Our schools are over capacity and overcrowded

More kids are on the way and our aging schools can’t accommodate them all.
Solve the Capacity Crisis

Our schools are falling behind surrounding communities

Our attractiveness as a community is based on the quality of our schools, and that is in peril.
Stay Competitive

This plan delivers the right solution at the least cost to taxpayers

Considered over the long term, it makes no sense to further expand and remodel 55-year-old facilities. Surrounding school districts don’t do it, and neither should we. This 5 to 8-year rebuilding program will produce school facilities for the next generation.
